The Blockbau system

The blockbau, or blockhaus, is one of the oldest timber construction systems and still very widespread in Northern Europe. The traditional system uses horizontally stacked newly roughed logs with interlocked corners.

Nowadays, we use square beams which, in addition to the typical interlocking corners, are tongue-and-groove jointed over their entire length. Mostly fir or larch solid timber beams are used, but it is possible to use glued laminated and bilam timber. The blockbau system can also be used to create interior partitions.

Each piece is numbered to optimise assembly times. Walls are normally insulated and factory-prepared for the installation of electrical and plumbing systems. Depending on customer preference, exterior and interior timbers can be left exposed.
